Basics Concepts of Linux Operating Systems - Open Source

What is Linux? 

A Linux operating system is open source platform can do and make changes in source code. A customized platform you can use it accordingly. Additionally, Operating System is platform which we can do task or communicate with system. Hardware & Software inbuilt installed to executing applications. 

A lots of operating system available in computer technology such as windows, apple. But here we can discuss the basic concept of Linux operating system. 

What is Linux Kernel ? 

 

In linux operating system, only one kernel is exists. For example, in Linux OS vmlinuz is kernel exist. The kernel main responsibilities to manage the task and communicate between hardware and software. 

For Example:     vmlinuz-2.6 

vmlinuz is the name of linux kernel. 2.6 version of kernel.

MBR (Master Boot Record) 

MBR stands for master boot record. It is around 512 bytes that consist the three main responsibilities to handle it. In first sector of hard disk is find the boot loader. After finding the booting information, consists of 446 bytes. 64 bytes occupied partition table information, other 2 bytes remaining index file and folder exists in hard disk. 

So Linux is effective and secure platform in the any type of industry in present scenario. In Linux was derived from UNIX OS previously. 

BOOTLOADER 

Bootloader is program that can used for executing operating system files during the booting process. At start up it requires some file to creating and managing the operating system environment. After successful completion of operating system files loading process user can see the desktop environment. 

In Linux operating system, there are two types of bootloader exists. 

            i) GRUB (Grand Unified Bootloader)

            ii) LILO  (Linux Loader)

What are the Linux Flavors? 

Linux flavors are different operating systems in the market. User can use it according to their requirement. Better and effective Linux environment gives lots of functionalities. A lot of operating systems such as ubuntu, red hat, fedora and many more. 

WHY LINUX REQUIRED? 

In industry, Linux is popular and secure environment to build any type of server in the market. Better and secure firewall system. Some of features or services exists in operating system must know about this: 

• Open Source Operating System build and customize source code. 
• Linux is stable kernel as compare to windows or any platform.
